A rally was held at the steps of Upper Sproul Plaza on Friday to protest and raise awareness of the controversial Measure S that will be voted on by Berkeley residents on Tuesday.

Students are being encouraged to serve as “text out the vote” captains and send on-the-spot messages urging friends to vote, according to Sean Para, campaign co-coordinator for Ohio PIRG’s nonpartisan New Voters Project and a freshman at Oberlin College.

Colorado Public Interest Research Group’s New Voters Project has been running a campaign all semester to raise awareness about voting among students. This month the Auraria branch of CoPIRG hosted debate parties on campus so students could come to watch the presidential and vice presidential debates.

The members of the University of Colorado’s Energy Service Corps are used to educating Boulderites on sustainability. But Saturday, the group was schooled by Boulder Mayor Matt Applebaum during an assessment of his passive solar home.

Now that the fall semester’s well under way, college students should take a moment to reconsider their banking options. According to a May 2012 report by the U.S. PIRG Education Fund, more than 900 colleges have made deals with banks to market prepaid debit cards to students. Some colleges offer students financial aid money preloaded on one of these cards, or even combine the campus ID with a stored-value card to make using these cards a more attractive option.

Early voting began today in North Carolina, and StudentVote.org is out on N.C. State’s campus encouraging students to hit the polls.

With less than three weeks until Election Day, some students at the University of Colorado are hoping to increase excitement about the upcoming presidential election.

For the upcoming election, a new Pennsylvania law passed in early August requires that all voters, including students, must present some form of government-issued photo identification at the polls.

As a joint collaboration between California Public Interest Research Group and AmeriCorps, the CALPIRG Energy Service Corp is focused on getting students engaged, involved and educated about energy conservation, preservation and efficient energy use.
